The sprinters had another opportunity on Tuesday during Stage 4 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Between Saumur and Poitiers, the route was mostly flat — perfect terrain for a bunch sprint. Fiona Mangan was particularly active and, unlike the day before, was able to contest the sprint.
In the early kilometers, attacks came from all sides. Fiona also tried to get away : "I probably used up a bit of energy in the fight for the break, but it was worth trying," she explained. Later, she was able to stay in the main group during the fast final : "The finish was tough and fast. I had to stay alert and save some energy for the sprint. In the final stretch, I had to zigzag between riders who were sitting up. But I’m happy to finish in the first group." She crossed the line in 28th place, in the same time as the winner — a satisfying result for both the Irish rider and the Winspace Orange Seal team.
On Wednesday, Stage 5 will take the riders from Chasseneuil-du-Poitou (Futuroscope) to Guéret.
