The women’s edition of La Flèche Wallonne took place this Wednesday under wet and tough conditions. Constance Valentin, Camille Fahy, Jenaya Francis, Nadia Gontova, Karolina Perekitko and Kiara Lylyk all lined up for Winspace Orange Seal. Four of them made it to the finish, with Nadia Gontova delivering the team’s best result — a solid 37th place.
The bad weather dampened early breakaway ambitions, and a compact peloton rolled through the opening kilometers at a relatively steady pace, averaging 34 km/h before reaching the decisive finishing circuit around Huy. "The rain was definitely a challenge for me," admitted Gontova after the race. "It was pretty scary when I was coming down. Such a big bunch, so much water... I am happy we made it safely".
Eyes on Liège-Bastogne-Liège
The selection came from the back on the final circuit. Gontova proved her strength and resilience by remaining in the group of contenders up the Côte de Cherave, just five kilometers from the finish. She crossed the line in 37th position — another encouraging WorldTour performance for the young Canadian. "I'm happy with my result. I was getting dropped of the front group pretty close to the finish".
This Sunday, she will start her third consecutive WorldTour race. After the Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne, Nadia is set to make her debut at the prestigious Liège–Bastogne–Liège. "I don't really have a lot of experience on this level racing. It's quite hard expectations. I think Sunday is gonna be a good race for me with longer climbs, more up and down all day. I'm looking forward to the race and I will also be available to support my teammates".
