Marine Allione, Marie-Mograne Le Deunff, Aurela Nerlo, Florence Normand and Karolina Perekitko braved the Belgian cobbles at Gand-Wevelgem. The first Polish rider mentioned joined the leading group in the final pack.
The famous Mount Kemmel lived up to all its promises. For almost 170km, the Winspace Orange Seal riders battled it out with the world's best. Aurela Nerlo, who has been in fine form since the start of the season, highlighted by a dazzling second place in the Omloop Nieuwsblad on 1 March, once again shone. The Pole, who was present in the final pack, said she was "happy" with her race. "In the last few kilometres, we caught up with the breakaway. It was difficult to get a good result. It was a big group."
The Ardennes in her sights
Forced to sit out the MidSouth gravel race in mid-March due to dreadful weather conditions, Marine Allione has been working hard. More than seven minutes behind winner Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx - Protime), the Frenchwoman is not worried. Quite the contrary, in fact. "This was expected. My peak form is for the Ardennes. I'm still preparing", she explains.
Before the Ardennaises, the French team will take the start of A Travers la Flandre. This will take place on 2 April. Which means... next Wednesday!
Cyclist rankings :
Aurela Nerlo: 37th
Marine Allione: 98th
