Aurela Nerlo, who was in a good position until around thirty kilometres from the finish, confirmed her current (very) good form. The Pole finished twenty-fourth in the Belgian race.
We left her with a solid 37th place last Sunday in Gent-Wevelgem. She did even better at A Travers la Flandre. Aurela Nerlo took a prestigious 24th place. Although the Polish rider was selected from the back on the first difficulties, she didn't flinch.
The Winspace Orange Seal member is perhaps in the shape of her life. "I'm feeling really good. This year's race calendar suits me perfectly." Even if a few adjustments can be made to aim even higher. "It was a very good race. Unfortunately, I wasted too much energy fighting for position. It was the same when I stayed too far back to join the first group", she notes. "It's not that difficult to keep up with the others on the climbs or on the cobbles. For me, being in a good position before each difficulty is the most difficult."
Damien Pommereau : "We're at our best."
Given the names at the start of this Belgian race, it would be difficult for WOS to do better. "We're at our level", says sports director Damien Pommereau. "The aim is to get the best out of the girls with the weapons we have. It was very complicated to finish in the top 10."
One Polish woman can hide another. Karolina Perekitko, in her second classic, didn't disappoint. The Polish climber gave her all to support her compatriot. "I tried to help Aurela as much as possible. I did my best for her", she explained. "I'm happy to have been here with the team and to be back competing after my attitude camp in the mountains."
Winspace will be back in France on 9 April for the Pays de la Loire regional race. With a big goal in sight. "We'll have the chance to express ourselves", says Damien Pommereau.
Marine Allione crashed out of the race.
